How kalc works

What every kalc student gets.

Three core features. Add a real SAT tutor with the Guided package.

What every student gets
Diagnostic
Once, at the start
Finds your student's current SAT level and pinpoints their weakest topics, so the rest of their practice is targeted from day one.
Daily adaptive practice
Handwritten or annotated
Unlimited practice problems. kalc reads what your student wrote, finds where the reasoning broke, and asks the right question to get them unstuck.
Continuous tracking
For you and your student
A live score band, weakest topics, time spent. A Sunday digest in your inbox so you stay in the loop without nagging.
Guided package
A qualified SAT tutor with 5+ years of experience, in the loop
On the Guided package
  • Weekly 1-on-1 tutor sessions to review the week’s work and adjust the plan.
  • Tailored assignments between sessions targeting this week’s specific gaps.
The math on college

A higher SAT score changes which colleges are realistic.

Admissions and merit aid track SAT score bands at many schools and states:

Acceptance
  • University of Michigan
    SAT 1410–1500 (middle 50%)
  • Georgia Tech
    SAT 1430–1530 (middle 50%)
  • Northeastern University
    SAT 1460–1530 (middle 50%)

Middle 50% SAT ranges from each school's Common Data Set.

School and state merit aid
  • University of Alabama
SAT 1450+ up to $112K over 4 yrs
  • Florida Bright Futures
    SAT 1330+ 100% in-state tuition
  • Arizona State University
SAT 1410+ up to $96K over 4 yrs

Public flagships and many states publish merit ladders tied to SAT.

Better options. Better aid.

Maximize your student’s acceptances and minimize your future tuition bill.

Common parent questions

What parents ask before signing up.

What does kalc cost?
$95 per month, no contract. Includes unlimited practice for your student, the parent dashboard, and the weekly Sunday digest. A Guided Starter Package with private tutoring is available. See pricing for the breakdown.
How does a student write?
Students write on a tablet (iPad or Android) or a touchscreen laptop. Phones work too, but kalc is designed for tablets and laptops where there’s room to draw full work.
What’s the time commitment for us?
It varies by student and goal. Consistency matters more than session length, but a serious push can run up to about 2 hours a day. For you, the dashboard shows when your student last practiced and how much, and a Sunday email summarizes the week.
When does Reading & Writing arrive?
R&W launches later this month. The same handwriting and annotation engine that reads math work will read text annotations on passages. Existing kalc accounts pick it up automatically at no extra cost.
What if my student is already strong in SAT?
kalc detects high performers from the diagnostic and defaults them to Hard. From there, kalc reinforces pacing under time pressure, surfaces the subtle subcategories where high scorers usually leak points, and keeps the foundation sharp so your student doesn’t plateau before test day.
How does this compare to Khan Academy and private tutoring?
Khan Academy is a great free resource, but it grades the answer, not the work. If your child gets it wrong, they see a video. They don’t get feedback on their specific mistake or a plan that adapts to their weak spots. Private tutoring gives you the human, but most tutors don’t have a platform tracking every session, reading handwriting, and generating progress reports between meetings. kalc combines both: the personal attention of a tutor with a platform that does the detailed work between sessions.

Set up your student in 60 seconds.

The diagnostic takes about 30 minutes. You’ll see the first dashboard signals by the end of the week.
